History

It started with a ‘wild’ thought, but it was a golden idea: organising a running event through the IJtunnel between the ‘Dammen’ of Zaandam and Amsterdam. Inventor: Cees Lansbergen of Le Champion in 1981. Take a look at the complete story on how the Dam tot Damloop is realised.

Clothing drop-off 10 miles

Together with you bib number you will receive a plastic bag and a clothing sticker, that can be used for the clothing drop-off in Amsterdam. After filling your bag, you put the sticker that corresponds with your starting number on the bag. Make sure the bag is closed! You can hand in your plastic bag at the PostNL trailer that matches your bib number series. These PostNL trailers are at the bus station at the IJ-side of Amsterdam Central Station. Are you coming form the city side? Make use of the two passages on the outside of the station (IJpassage and Amstelpassage) to get to the bus platform. Take into account the end time of drop-off, listed on your sticker.

It is not possible om leave clothing at or close to the starting area. Furthermore only the bags supplied by the organisation will we accepted. Sporting bags or backpacks do not fit in this plastic bag so they will not be accepted at the drop-off. You can leave sport bags at Sporthal De Struijck or as a business runner at the clothing tent at the Dam tot Dam Park.

Be aware! The clothing drop-off, transport and distribution is at your own risk, which also applies for leaving behind clothing and backs at the dressing room.

Clothing pick up

About 150 meters after the finish, on the way to the Dam tot Dam Park, the clothing bags can be picked up. These bags are sorted based on bib number, where the lowest numbers are closest to the finish and the highest numbers closest to the Dam tot Dam Park. Clothing can be picked up until 17.15 hours. Tip! It is a waste to throw away the received clothing bag. The bag is great for re-use and very sustainable therefore as well. Do you still wish to throw away the bag? Make sure you put this at the plastic garbage.

Changing facilities
You can only find changing facilities in Zaandam at Sporthal De Struijck, close to the Dam tot Dam Park (no shower facilities). There is also (limited) space to leave bags. Participants of the Business Run can use the special business changing tent in the Dam tot Dam Park.

Clothing drop-off 5 miles

By showing your bib number, you can drop-off your own clothing bag at the Heijermansstraat between the Dam tot Dam Park and the finish. You will receive a sticker which you can stick to your bib number and correspondents to the number on your clothing bag so you can pick it up again after your run. Drop-off and pick up is possible between 18.45 and 22.45 hours.

Changing facilities
You can only find changing facilities in Zaandam at Sporthal De Struijck, close to the Dam tot Dam Park (no shower facilities). There is also (limited) space to leave bags but this is at your own risk. Participants of the Business Run can use the special business changing tent in the Dam tot Dam Park.

AED’s
The athletics union started on a great scale with the use of AED’s (automatic external defibrillator) at medium-sized till big running events. It seems that the threshold to start running has become lower and lower. Running is a recognized way to live healthy and fit. Together with Procardio (www.procardio.nl the supplies of the AED’s) the athletics union can provide AED’s for this running event. Because of this risks on decease caused by a cardiac arrest during a running event can be limited.

Crisis centre
Directly after the finish there is a crisis centre. You can only come to this centre if your family of friend is lost for a long time and suspect they have got medical problems. This centre is not for any questions on results, bus transfer or any other kind.

Massage
Before and after the Dam tot Damloop participants can get a massage at the Dam tot Dam Park. Business runners can also get this at the clothing tent at the Dam tot Dam park. A massage takes around 20 minutes. The average waiting time is 45 minutes. You are requested to bring a towel. The massage is provided by the NGS (Nederlands Genootschap voor Sportmassage).
